Fire involving 100 hay bales extinguished
Crews have extinguished a large fire involving a large amount of hay bales in south Staffordshire.
We were called at 9.25pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 August) to a field off Crab Lane, Bobbington, following reports of a fire.
Three appliances attended the scene and found a stack of around 100 hay bales well alight.
Crews used three hose reel jets and two main jets to extinguish the fire and thankfully nobody was injured.
Firefighters remained at the scene overnight to monitor any hotspots and dampen down affected hedgerow and surrounding trees.
Station Manager Liam Hickey, who attended the incident, said: "Temperatures are expected to reach more than 30 degrees today, and given the lack of rainfall this summer, we know that the fire risk is substantial.
"While the cause of this fire is still being determined, I'd ask people to take care when working in or enjoying the countryside.”
