Fire crews rescue trapped horse from shallow water canal

Firefighters have successfully rescued a horse from a shallow area of water feeding into a canal in Stoke-on-Trent.

Crews from Sandyford and Newcastle, as well as animal rescue units from Cannock and Leek, were called to the Norton Green area at 7.45am this morning (Friday 11 August).

On arrival, we found a one-year-old horse trapped in a one-metre deep shallow area of water.

Using animal rescue equipment, the horse was brought to safety by appropriately trained crews and treated at the scene by a local vet.

Shortly after, the horse was taken to a local veterinary for further treatment.

Thankfully, the horse is expected to make a full recovery.

Crews left the scene at 9.45am.
