Fire crews battle factory fire overnight

Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish a large factory fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

At approximately 10pm on Sunday (17 July), crews were dispatched to an industrial premises on Chemical Lane in Longport following reports of a fire.

Multiple crews from Sandyford, Hanley, Newcastle, Longton, Burslem and Biddulph attended the scene with a water carrier from Cheadle and a control unit from Stone.

Additional crews arrived throughout the night from Kinver, Rugeley, Penkridge, Leek and Burton to relieve some crews who attended initially.

No one was injured.

Three main jets, two hose reel jets and an aerial ladder platform were used to bring the fire under control.

The fire was later deemed deliberate and the incident has been left in the care of Staffordshire Police.

Watch Manager Neil Gordon, who attended the scene, said: “Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night in sweltering conditions to bring this extensive fire under control.

“We have looked to release resources where possible and ensure nearby stations are crewed.

“Firefighters across the county have pulled together and effectively contained this fire which could have spread to the surrounding area and rapidly escalated out of control.”
