Enjoy the warm weather safely this weekend

With temperatures set to hit 25 degrees this weekend, we’re reminding people of some top tips to make sure everyone enjoys the warm weather safety.

We were called to over 1,800 outdoor fires last spring and summer, most of which were preventable.

Head of Prevent, Protect and Partnerships, Nick Jones, said: “We need everyone to help us reduce the number of fires we are called to this summer.

“Accidental fires are easily preventable, by not having barbeques in the countryside, not dropping cigarettes and taking all litter home or putting it in a bin.

“Small deliberate fires can quickly spread and become out of control due to the ground being dry, so I would urge parents to speak to children about these dangers.

“Setting deliberate fires not only damages landscapes and wildlife but is also a crime and your child could receive a criminal record.

“We have also already attended a number of water rescue incidents across Staffordshire, where people have entered water to cool off but unfortunately got into difficulty.

“Thankfully, nobody has been seriously injured but it is important to remember that lakes, canals and rivers are extremely dangerous and are often much colder than you expect, making it hard to swim.

“I would urge everyone to follow our advice and enjoy the warm weather safely.”
