Enjoy the sun safely this weekend
We are urging people to enjoy the warm weather safely after a man suffered serious burns in a fire in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Crews were called just after 1am on Saturday (4 July) to a garden on Bishops Close in Kidsgrove following reports of a fire.
Two appliances attended the scene and found a small brazier fire had become out of control.
A man was taken to hospital with serious burns. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing at this time.
Station Manager Mike Loader attended the scene. He said: “This fire was caused by an accelerant being put onto a fire, causing it to become out of control.
“We understand that people want to enjoy the warm weather but it is crucial that this is done safely.
“As we have seen in this incident, a small fire can quickly become out of control and become dangerous.
“With this week’s warm forecast, I would urge people to not start fires and help us reduce the number of accidental fires by disposing of cigarettes properly and taking all rubbish home.
