Crews urge caution around gas cannisters following explosion
Firefighters are urging people to be cautious around the use of gas cannisters during the heatwave following a possible heat-related explosion causing injuries to two women and a child in the Moorlands.
We were called at around 3.20pm yesterday (Thursday 25 June) to a property on Main Road in Hollington following reports of a small explosion.
A small butane gas cannister, which had been on a table in direct sunlight, had exploded.
Two women and a toddler suffered minor burns.
Firefighters attended and administered immediate first aid prior to colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service attending the scene.
They were each taken to hospital by ambulance.
Compressed gas cannisters can be dangerous if damaged, heated, or used incorrectly.
Cans should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated location, away from direct sunlight, radiators, or open fires.
