Crews tackle large grass fire

Crews have extinguished a large grass fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

We were called at 9.40am today (Thursday 25 June) to Ash Bank Road in Werrington following reports of smoke coming from a field.

Three appliances attended the scene and found a tractor well alight. The fire had also spread to a large area of grass.

The fire was extinguished using two hose reel jets and thankfully, nobody was reported injured.

The cause of the fire has been deemed to be accidental.

The risk of outdoor fires is significant during this warm weather, and it's absolutely crucial that people do everything possible to limit the risk of fires from starting.

Every year, fire is responsible for the destruction of thousands of acres of countryside and we are urging people to do their bit to help prevent fires.

Avoid having barbeques in the countryside, do not drop cigarettes and make sure to take all litter home or put it in a bin.
