Crews extinguish large grass fire

Crews have extinguished a large grass fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

We were called just before 6pm on Monday (27 April) to grassland off Mineral Road, Adderley Green, following reports of a fire.

Three appliances attended the scene and used beaters to extinguish a fire which involved an area measuring approximately 50 metres by 60 metres.

Nobody was reported injured.

The fire was later deemed to have been caused deliberately.

Watch Commander Justin Cooley attended the scene. He said: “With the recent warm weather, one small fire can quickly get out of hand and become a fast-spreading fire.

“These fires have a devastating impact on landscapes, wildlife and communities.

“I would urge people not to set deliberate fires, avoid having BBQs in the countryside and always take rubbish home.”
