Crews attend HGV spillage containing 6,000 gallons of chemicals

Firefighters were called to the M6 Northbound carriageway, between Hanchurch and Keele Services yesterday (7 February), following reports of a chemical spillage.

At 10.35am, it was reported that six 1,000 gallon containers of chemicals had spilled onto the road.

Crews from Hanley, Longton, Newcastle and Cheadle attended the scene and discovered a HGV which had lost its load onto the northbound carriageway.

Staffordshire Police attended the incident and closed the entrance to J14 whilst managing traffic diversion.

Crews remained at the scene where one covering jet was used to contain the chemicals in the area.

All of the damaged containers were up-righted and placed in a safe area for extraction.

Crews had left the scene by 5.15pm.
