Bonfire leads to barn fire

Firefighters have extinguished a fire inside a barn in Abbots Bromley which was caused by a bonfire spreading out of control.

Crews were called at 10am today (Tuesday 29 September) to a farm off Pinfold Lane, following reports of a fire.

Four appliances and a water carrier attended the scene and found a barn well alight.

Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and a local farmer used a telehandler to remove hay from the barn.

Thankfully, no animals were in the barn at the time and nobody was reported injured.

Station Manager Andy Bourne attended the scene. He said: “Bonfires can be unpredictable and quickly spread, as we have seen in this incident.

“I would remind people to always keep bonfires away from outbuildings, trees and vegetation and ensure that the fire is attended at all times.

"Thankfully, on this occasion, our crews were able to contain the spread and extinguish the fire safely."
