Accidental HGV fire extinguished in Bednall

We have extinguished a lorry fire on the A34 at Bednall this morning (Monday 14 September).

At the height of the incident in the early hours, four crews worked to contain a fire affecting a 44-tonne HGV.

Colleagues from Staffordshire Police and Highways England also attended the scene and closed the road while firefighters worked with hose reel jets and a main jet.

A number of crews were released from the scene when the fire was extinguished, leaving a small number of crews to dampen down hotspots while recovery is being arranged.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be accidental, as a result of mechanical failure within the brakes.
