Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have made the decision not to extend the agreement for Moorlands Radio to operate out of Leek community fire station from March 2020 onwards. This is a Service decision based upon a number of current organisational requirements and will allow the Service to maintain its delivery of response, prevention and protection to the communities of Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent in the most effective way possible.

The relationship between the Service and Moorlands radio has been a positive one and has been in existence since the station opened however the ongoing management of the relationship has been questioned as part of the review.

The decision to end the agreement has been confirmed by both parties and arrangements are being put into place to ensure that the radio station can continue to operate from Leek Fire station until the current agreement expires (end march 2020). The radio station operates out of the operational side of the station and as such no community facilities have been affected by this decision.

Moorlands Radio:

"Following ongoing and constructive discussions with our partners at SFRS we confirm that we will be leaving Leek Community Fire Station next year.

The board of Directors and staff would like to place on record our thanks and appreciation to SFRS for their support and hospitality over the past three years.

This decision is in the interests of both parties. As we occupied space on the operational side of the station we accept the service must evolve to deliver for the needs of the Staffordshire Moorlands and surrounding areas.

Moorlands Radio also needs to evolve and expand so that we too can provide the best service to our listeners and fulfil our plans to be the number one radio station covering our area.

We are pleased that following the SFRS review no community use or space will be lost at Leek Community Fire Station."
