Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is warning residents to heat their homes safely as the temperature gets colder.
This incident serves as a stark reminder to heat your home safely. Always keep electric heaters away from flammable materials
The plea comes after a fire in a mobile home on Roddige Lane, in Lichfield. Crews from Lichfield and Burton-upon-Trent attended and found the home well alight. They used a hose reel jet and wore two breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.
A fire investigation was carried out and concluded the blaze was caused by a heater left in close proximity to bed linen.
Station Manager Rob Watts said: “This incident serves as a stark reminder to heat your home safely. Always keep electric heaters away from flammable materials. We understand that this might be difficult in smaller homes and spaces but this is essential to prevent fires from occurring.
“As the weather gets colder it is important to ensure your heaters are working correctly and have no damage. If you are using an open always use a fire guard, keep a safe distance and make sure there are not flammable materials nearby.
