Director of Prevent and Protect Glynn Luznyj

The Service was called to a detached property on Withington Lane at around 8.10am on Tuesday January 9 and two crews from Longton and one from Cheadle attended.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel jet to put out the fire but unfortunately the elderly woman had already passed away. It is believed she also had a dog in the property which has also sadly died.

The fire has caused some structural damage to the building and so operations have continued from the outside of the property.

Firefighters are still on the scene damping down and a fire investigation will soon begin with Staffordshire Police once the building is safe to enter.

Director of Prevent and Protect Glyn Luznyj said: “This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are with the lady’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“A full fire investigation will take place to establish exactly what has happened to cause this fire.”
