Firefighters receive thank you from local community programme

December 14 2018

Firefighters at Longton Community Fire Station were extremely grateful to receive a Christmas care package from a local community project to thank them for working over the holidays.

The crews were really grateful for the donation. Although no firefighter does the job for recognition or a thank you, we are all really touched by this organisation’s thoughtful gift and the young people who gave up their time to show their appreciation.

Station Manager Neil Pederson

Stoke City Football Club’s National Citizens Service (NCS) Programme organisers delivered the boxes on Tuesday, December 11, after the 10 young people involved in the group spent a sponsored night at the stadium. They stayed awake the whole night to symbolise the dedication of the emergency services. The funds raised as part of their three-week long course were used to buy the treats handed over to the crews.

Station Manager Neil Pederson said: “We weren’t aware that they would be coming by to give us the Christmas box so it was a really nice surprise when they arrived at the station.

“The crews were really grateful for the donation. Although no firefighter does the job for recognition or a thank you, we are all really touched by this organisation’s thoughtful gift and the young people who gave up their time to show their appreciation.”

Martin Steventon, NCSP Manager said: “Young people were keen to recognised the sacrifice that the emergency services make in being away from their families and loved ones at Christmas, keeping us safe in the process. This has been a nice way to thank you and I’m very proud of all our NCS participants”
