Princes Trust Programme Support Volunteer

Role: Princes Trust Programme Support Volunteer
Location: Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire
Responsible to: Prince’s Trust Delivery Partner Manager
Hours: 2-30+ hours per week

Overall function

To assist in the running of The Prince’s Trust programmes: Get Started, Fairbridge, Team and Achieve. You will be working with young people in the local community.


  • To support young people who may need additional help during structured classroom sessions
  • To assist with checking for spelling and grammar mistakes in the work that the young people complete
  • To assist with the preparation of portfolios for the qualifications
  • To assist with the research, preparation and booking in of activities, guest talkers and resources for the programmes
  • To support with the planning for each programme
  • To support another member of staff with the visits to work placement providers during the Team programme
  • To assist with the fundraising, community projects and team challenge modules or external visits in the different programmes
  • To follow general health & safety and rules and to ensure that  young people do the same
  • To assist with necessary programme set-up and clean-up
  • To assist with the maintenance of information boards in the centre
  • To attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and local policy developments
  • To ensure that all volunteer work is delivered in accordance with the Fire Services guidelines
  • To develop an understanding of citizenship in young people
  • To educate young people and their families about community safety and wellbeing

Person specification


  • An Enhanced plus Barring DBS Check will be required for this post
  • English and Maths at Level 2 or GCSE Grade C minimum and a willingness to undertake training appropriate to the role
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent administration and organisational skills
  • Ability to receive direction and work as part of a team
  • Ability to complete a small amount of written work and complete forms
  • Excellent time keeping skills
  • Interested in working with young people
  • Experience of working on Microsoft IT packages



  • Previous experience and/or knowledge of the Princes Trust
  • Experience leading a team
  • Previous experience of safety and wellbeing
  • Previous experience of working with young people and/or other members of the community
  • Previous experience of volunteering for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • The ability to speak an additional language (Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Cantonese, Polish etc ) would be advantageous
  • A driving license
  • Additional skills such as British Sign Language, basic first aid
  • The ability to work on own initiative
  • An interest in progressing in a teaching/education centered career
