Community Engagement Volunteer

Role: Community Engagement Volunteer
Location: Service Delivery Group
Responsible to: Prevent Lead/Business Manager
Hours: A minimum commitment of 8 hours per month is required  


Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have Community Fire Stations across Staffordshire, which are used by a wide range of partners and community and voluntary groups for many different activities, which help to improve the health, safety and well-being of our communities.

The role of the Community Engagement Volunteer is to assist the Prevention and Business Administration teams to work with identified and targeted community groups.


  • Provide access to Community facilities for pre-booked activities, including opening up and preparation of facilities.
  • Provide front of house meeting and greeting of group members, ensuring they are familiar with the surroundings and conferencing facilities.
  • Provide support to group members in terms of conferencing facilities, equipment and refreshments. 
  • Communicate safety messages as appropriate through short presentations and give a basic health & safety awareness briefs.
  • Make links and liaise with local groups within the community, advocating our messages to the most vulnerable and maintaining contact where possible.
  • Have an awareness of their local communities and the structures within these.
  • Engage with your local teams, crews and facilities management.
  • Organise and support events to bring local groups together, utilising our community station facilities.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the community notice boards, ensuring they are populated with up to date key information.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to achieve deadlines, work on own initiative and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work as a team member or individual
  • Coordination and administration skills
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate would be desirable
