Summer Safety
Stay safe this Summer
We attend over 40 grass fires per week during the Summer. This is much more than we'd like to. You can help us out
- Put out cigarettes and other materials before you leave your vehicle.
- Never throw cigarette ends out of car windows – they could start a fire and ruin the surrounding country.
- If you see a fire in the countryside report it immediately.
- Don’t attempt to tackle fires that can’t be out with a bucket of water – leave the area as soon as possible.
- Don’t leave bottles or glass in woodlands. Sunlight shining through glass can start a fire.
- Lots of grass fires are started by children – educate yours about the dangers of grass fires.
Planning a barbecue? Don’t include your local Firefighters on the invite list! Stay Safe
- Never leave a barbecue unattended.
- Use enough charcoal to cover the base of the barbecue but not more.
- Make sure your barbecue is well away from sheds, fences, trees, shrubs or garden waste.
- Enjoy yourself but don’t drink too much alcohol if you are in charge of the barbecue.
- Keep children, pets and garden games away from the cooking area.
- Empty ashes onto bare soil, not into dustbins. If they’re hot they can melt plastic.
- Always keep water nearby.
