Finding your way around the site
On the left hand side of every page is a grey menu which lists the section
you are in and the categories within that section. These categories can be
clicked on to view information.
To assist you with moving back and forth between the pages there is a "bread
crumb" menu at the top of each page - this starts with 'You are here:....' so
you can see the path you have followed to reach your destination and use it to
revisit previous pages, (or you may prefer to use your web browser's back
button.)
There are five main ways that you can find information on this web site:
1. The Bread Crumb
This is the link to all levels of the left menu above the current
location, showing the route you have taken, and the context of
the current page. Breadcrumbs allow users to backtrack and to move up
the hierarchy. For example, home>Press Releases>2005>June2005>Serious Fire.
2. Search
Use the search box to type in your own word(s)
and carry out a search for the word(s) on the website. The search box can be
found in the top right hand corner of every page. It is best to use one or two
key words rather than a long sentence.
3. Choose a main section
eg. Community Safety, by clicking down through each sub section from the main page. Click on the
section you want to go to and then click on the arrow or the section name. To go back to the homepage you can click on "up
to homepage" which refers to section 1.
4. A - Z
The A-Z is another method for finding
information on the site. It lists all the information relating to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, in alphabetical order. Simply
click on
the first initial letter of the service you require. For example, if you want to
find information on Fire Safety, you may choose to click on the letter
'F' for Firesafety, or perhaps 'A' for Arson.
5. Site map
Some people like to use a site map to get an
overview of all the main areas of a website. Our site map can be located by
clicking on the words 'Site Map' that appear at the top of every page.
6. Document window
This is where the Page loads the main document that has been clicked on
7. Jargon
A useful glossary to public services (and
voluntary sector) jargon can be found at: www.societyguardian.co.uk/glossary
