Strategic Risk Management

|Start of content|
Risks not only provide opportunities but can threaten the objectives of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Therefore it is vital to identify and manage existing risks effectively in order to reduce impact on resources and enhance the services that are provided throughout Staffordshire. Through policy, process, training, monitoring and review the Strategic Risk team leads Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in effectively managing organisational risks to maximise service delivery.

What does the Strategic Risk Team do?
The Strategic Risk Team has a number of core responsibilities and benefits from being involved in many of the Service’s endeavours. Obviously the key role of the department is to maintain an effective risk management system throughout the Service, which includes the following stages:-

  • Identification and analysis of risks (whether they be physical, economical, social, technical, legal or environmental)
  • Ensuring that identified risks are recorded
  • Establishing and implementing the appropriate treatment for identified risks
  • Monitoring the risks and carrying out regular reviews of the system.

The Strategic Risk Management department also upholds appropriate insurance arrangements for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service staff and members of the public who come into contact with the Service. In addition, all liability claims that are made against the Service are handled by the team, and any relevant information that emerges is fed back into the risk identification process. A further responsibility of the Strategic Risk Management department is to record and manage compliments, complaints and comments received about Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, our staff and the services that we provide.
