| |Start of content| Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been purchasing Scania Pumping Appliances since 2002 During the specification of these appliances the Transport and Engineering department has worked very closely with Operations,
Health and Safety and Station personnel to ensure that all aspects of the Service are taken into account.
This is especially relevant with stowage of equipment for manual handling and the provision of appliances for a diverse workforce. Fit for Purpose These appliances are purchased from John Dennis Coachbuilders of Guildford Surrey and Emergency One of Cumnock Ayrshire via The Fire Service Procurement Association (FSPA) framework arrangements and comply with all the latest European (CEN) requirements relating to performance and safety standards.
Added Safety features: Full Battenberg livery Cab and locker door open warning system c/w voice warning module Reversing aid Enhanced crewcab lighting Extra LED step lighting Disc-lock wheel nuts Tailored crewcab stowage for all items of equipment Full driver and crew familiarisation training and documentation prior to entering service Rear Bodywork: The rear bodywork houses the full range of firefighting equipment on slide out / tilt and rotating slide tray systems. The latest appliances are purchased with Weber Rescue equipment c/w dedicated cutting and spreader tools and a Hale 8/5 Light Portable Pump (LPP) Multiplex System: Each bodybuilder supplies a fully multiplexed body wiring system by Intellitec. This system is fully programmable and is specified with “999” “Arrive at Scene” and “Pre-check” facilities which is more driver friendly and enhances safety before turn out, en-route and at the incident. The latest LED lighting systems are employed where possible to further enhance safety and eliminate costly bulb changing which in turn increases appliance availability. Main Pump These appliances are fitted with Hale World Series 2010 main pumps which deliver 2000 litres per minute at 10bar low pressure and 400 litres at 40bars high pressure. The most recent Scanias are specified with the latest Hale “LOGIX” Integrated Compressed Air Foam (CAFS) systems. Compressed Air Foam systems are proving to greatly enhance firefighting capabilities by providing a faster, more effective knock down and suppression of fire. This is becoming recognised as the most environmentally friendly and safest method in modern firefighting techniques giving many benefits to the firefighter. The use of foam and compressed air reduces the comparable water capacity normally required at fires by up to 80% and reduces the affect on property, stock and the environment by reducing the amount of contaminated water run off. |
