Scania Bronto 32RL Aerial Ladder Platform Unit
During 2005 Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service purchased two Scania Bronto Aerial Ladder Platforms (ALP)

These appliances will be stationed at Longton and Burton

These appliances were purchased from Angloco Ltd of Batley West Yorkshire following a full European Tendering exercise.

Scania Bronto 32RL Aerial Ladder Platform Units

These appliances are Medium Duty Bronto 32RL boom packages from Finland and are designed to encompass all the advantages that both a Hydraulic Platform and a Turntable Ladder offer, as well as possessing many additional safety features. They are capable of reaching a safe working height of 32 metres.
The Scania third steering axle allows the appliance to be much more manoeuvrable, enabling it to be positioned more accurately and safely in congested areas on the fire ground.
Additional equipment provided with the ALP appliances include;
  • Automatic and manual variable jacking
  • Remotely operated water monitor, capable of delivering 2300 litres per minute

Engine: Scania In-Line 6 cylinder 9 litre 300 bhp
Gearbox: Allison World Series 6 speed automatic with push button control and integral hydraulic retarder
Cab: Scania 6X2 three axle with rear steer facility
Power Take Off: Chelsea side mounted power take off
Brakes: Anti-lock brakes all axles with EBS
Drive Line: Rear Steer axle with load transfer/lift mode, Traction Control and Differential lock
Suspension: Full Air suspension to all axles

Added Safety features:

Full Battenberg livery
Cab and locker door open warning system c/w voice warning module
Reversing aid and reversing camera
Extra LED step lighting
Disc-lock wheel nuts
Full driver and crew familiarisation training and documentation prior to entering service

Multiplex System

Fully multiplexed body wiring system by Intellitec. This system is fully programmable and is specified with “999” “Arrive at Scene” and “Pre-check” facilities which is more driver friendly and enhances safety before turn out, en-route and at the incident.

The latest LED lighting systems are employed where possible to further enhance safety and eliminate costly bulb changing which in turn increases appliance availability
