Equality and Diversity

|Start of content|
Fire does not differentiate in who it harms and where it strikes, neither does Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in whom it protects and who it employs.
|
Introduction:

“Staffordshire has a rich mix of communities, commerce and industry, religion and culture. The Fire and Rescue Service has traditionally provided a safety net for society in times of emergencies and will continue to do so. But increasingly, public services generally and the Fire and Rescue Services in particular, are seeking to work even more closely with the community to provide even higher quality services and make it even safer. Implicit in working with the community is an understanding of its needs and differences. This understanding must however, go beyond simple recognition and be reflected in all policy and practice within the Service. It is an absolute right for everyone who lives or works in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, to expect a high quality Fire and Rescue Service, free from any bias or discrimination.”

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive
(Respecting Diversity Staff Handbook)

The Equality and Diversity Section consists of an Equality and Diversity Manager and an Assistant. One of our aims is to fulfil the Chief Fire Officer's vision by working with the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Authority and Service staff to increase awareness of the issues concerning equality and diversity. Offering our knowledge and expertise in the field empowers Members and staff to further develop their understanding of the diverse community they serve on a daily basis.
