Dear friends in retirement

Could I take a few minutes of your valuable time to explain the new initiative undertaken by the Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, Mr Alan Doig, on behalf of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The thought behind the initiative is to provide a network of telephone contacts throughout the Brigade as a means of providing support, where possible, for any welfare needs of retired personnel and their families, with the additional benefit of endeavouring to develop a friendly way of keeping in touch with our army of colleagues who have provided a sterling service for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service over a great number of years.

This contact will be as little or as much as individual needs determine without any obligation on anyone to partake, and would include all ex-personnel including Wholetime, Retained, Support Staff, part-time or full-time, who have retired in past years and are interested in such contact being made.

The idea is that you, our retired members, may appreciate perhaps a telephone or written contact occasionally, to enquire of your well-being or of any welfare related matters which we (Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service) could possibly be of assistance with, and to remind you that we are here to help if at all possible if you have a need.

In order to contact as many past staff as possible we would, of course, need your help to contact any personnel in your area who may have retired leaving no links to their whereabouts by way of addresses or telephone numbers, hopefully they may be interested in our efforts to contact them and wish to be part of our retired network.  If so, please ask them to contact me, or any of the numbers in your information pack, and we will be delighted to include them in the ‘Network’.

The Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive has asked me to co-ordinate this excellent initiative and I feel that it would be beneficial to all who choose to partake enthusiastically of the good intentions which this idea is attempting to encourage.

Kind regards,

Mike Lockett
