Background and history:

Ceremonial elements within the Fire Service have been in existence since Brigades were first established. In Staffordshire, the Fire Service has always been represented at Remembrance Day Parades. Following
the conflict in the Falklands (1982) and the Gulf (1990) the number of firefighters attending parades increased, partly because some had served in the conflicts.

In 1990, the Chief Fire Officer gave his permission to form an official, though voluntary Ceremonial Squad to represent the Fire Service. This was made up of a Station Officer Leader/Drill Instructor and 22 members. A Service Standard was dedicated in 1996 (Sponsored by Interspiro)- a new one was dedicated in 1999 following unitary status. This is paraded at Fire Service and non-Fire Service events on a local, national and international basis.

Over the years the Ceremonial Squad has made many friends within the communities of Staffordshire, and has forged associations with Devon Fire Brigade Ceremonial Band and Tyne and Wear Ceremonial Squad having accompanied them on engagements at home and abroad.

Driven by the enthusiasm and commitment of its members the squad has developed into a thoroughly professional unit who have given and continue to fulfill an expectation of performance and quality wherever they parade.
