the community of Staffordshire.
What is a Retained Firefighter: Retained Firefighters are usually located in rural areas although some are located in the busier areas of Staffordshire to provide extra fire cover alongside their full time colleagues. Retained firefighters are paid and do the same job as full time firefighters, however rather than being based on a fire station retained are on standby waiting to be alerted to a call out. Retained Firefighters are equipped with the same fire kit, vehicle and equipment as a full time fire fighter and will be called to the same types of incidents day or night that full time firefighters attend. Retained Firefighters are Trained and Recruited in the same ways as Whole Time Firefighters. In return retained firefighters are paid a retaining fee plus additional payment for every incident attended.
