Xtinguish

The Xtinguish programme was launched January in 2004 and operated across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
|
Background:

Over recent years fire and rescue services have started to examine the increasing problem of arson and fire related crime.

In partnership with the Youth Offending Service, policies and targets have been established with the primary aim of reversing the trend, and reducing re-offending rates.

This will bring about obvious benefits to both society at large and local communities whilst at the same time reducing operational demands placed upon the fire service, enabling resources to be concentrate elsewhere.

Following the introduction of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, agencies are required to ensure that appropriate youth justice services are available for children and young people aged 10-17 years who offend or are accused of offending.

The specialist training for the delivery of the 'Xtinguish' intervention programme was supplied by the Cognitive Centre Foundation (CCF) based in Cardiff, South Wales. The CCF is a consultant agency that specialise in Cognitive behaviour Therapy and further details can be obtained by visiting their website:
