Burton Firefighters Raise Money for Haiti Appeal

Burton firefighters have raised £481.98 for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal thanks to a fundraising event in Burton Town Centre last Saturday.

All of the money, raised by Burton White Watch and other Burton fire station personnel, has now been donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and will go towards helping the survivors of the Haiti earthquake.

"We are extremely proud of the amount of money we raised last Saturday which was collected throughout the day despite our crews being called out to various fire calls. On behalf of everyone at Burton Fire Station I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone in the local community who donated money into our collection."

Risk Reduction Manager, Nigel Burton

He continued: "Some of our colleagues from neighbouring fire services are trained in urban search and rescue and they were sent out to Haiti to assist. We can’t imagine what they had to deal with, it was obviously a very difficult rescue operation, and so we just wanted to do our bit to help."

Staff at the Service’s Headquarters have also raised £247.33.
