Newcastle firefighters, who have organised a recent shoe box appeal to boost British Armed Forces serving in Afghanistan this Christmas, would like to thank members of the public for their generosity over recent weeks.
Firefighters in Newcastle began the shoe box appeal earlier in the month to bring festive cheer to troops in the Middle East. The campaign has been a huge success generating approximately 1,000 boxes! The boxes, which are made up toiletries, sweets and other snacks, will be sent out to troops next week in time to reach them for Christmas.
"On behalf of everyone here at Newcastle Fire Station I would like to thank all members of the public who have helped us out with this campaign by donating items, without them we wouldn’t have collected half as many items as we have."
Newcastle Assistant Area Commander, Rob Barber
