Members of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Authority have voted in their Chairman and Vice Chairman for the coming year.

Staffordshire County Councillor Stephen Sweeney has been re-elected as Chairman. He has served on the Authority for over four years. Stoke-on-Trent City Councillor Daniel Jellyman has been elected as Vice Chairman.

Together, they will lead meetings of the Authority which is now made up of 21 councillors from across the political spectrum.

The Authority is responsible for approving high profile strategies including the Corporate Safety Plan, the budget and other legislative duties.

Mr Sweeney said: “It is a real honour to have been voted in to continue as Chairman of the Authority and I am delighted to continue this role. These next 12-months promise to be an exciting time in the history of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service with the development of the new training facilities, the opening of our final community stations and the first recruitment of wholetime firefighters in eight years.

“Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is a forward-thinking organisation and I look forward to supporting the Service to achieve the best possible outcomes for the communities of Staffordshire and contributing towards shaping how this vital service is delivered in the future.” 

The Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Authority hosts six meetings per year as well as a number of committee meetings which are open to the press and public.
