Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) are set to host a number of multi-agency events for school children.

“The aim of these events is to provide an interactive day for the children to enhance their learning around staying safe."

Jordan Money, SFRS Community Safety Officer

The events, named ‘Safety Town’, will be held at fire stations across the county in a bid to provide a fun and interactive day to year five pupils (nine to 10-year-olds).

The events will be run by SFRS staff working in partnership with colleagues from Staffordshire Police, local councils, West Midlands Ambulance Service first responders, Community Together CIC, and the DHL road safety team.

The day will focus on delivering important safety messages to children. It aims to help them learn basic lifesaving skills, the dangerous of deliberately starting grass fires, home safety and internet safety, alongside learning about the consequences of drug and alcohol addiction and discussions around anti-social behaviour.

Jordan Money, Community Safety Officer, said: “The aim of these events is to provide an interactive day for the children to enhance their learning around staying safe.

“The events will allow pupils to take away key safety messages that they can share with family and friends.

“Anyone who is interested in the event is encouraged to get in touch with me to book places. We anticipate this will be popular with local schools and places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.”

Safety Town events will run at Tamworth Fire Station between Monday May 22 and Friday May 26. Anyone interested in booking a place can contact Jordan Money on 01785 898946 or Jordan.Money@staffordshirefire.gov.uk

Further events will take place at Lichfield, Chase Terrace, Burton and Uttoxeter, and dates will be announced in due course.
