Fire crews are in attendance at an incident involving an Acetylene cylinder at Halfords in Cannock.

A 100 metre cordon has been put in place, which is standard practice in situations where Acetylene is involved.

Firefighters have been using main jets to cool the cylinder since they arrived on the scene at around 4.25pm yesterday.

Companies on the Virage Point business park on Green Lane, Bridgtown, have been evacuated and local residents have been informed.

The situation has today been described as ‘stable’.

Crews from Cannock, Penkridge, Lichfield, Chase Terrace, Codsall, Rising Brook, Breewood and the Command Support Unit from Stone attended the incident.

Two crews – one from Cannock and one from Brewood – are currently at the site.

Staffordshire Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Highways Officers are supporting the incident.

Roads surrounding the business park remain closed as a precaution.
